Hepatica nobilis

Description and Distribution:
The name is derived from Latin hepar “liver” referring to the shape of the leaves. A mainly tuft or clump forming species found in Europe, Asia and north America. Flowers appear in late Spring and early summer. This plant will thrive in shady places. The ideal soil structure for hepatica is the leaf litter under either birches or maples.
