Iris forrestii

Habitat:
Grow in sun to part shade in moderately fertile, moist soil.

Description and distribution:
Forrest’s Iris, Iris forrestii grows to 40cm tall and has mildly scented, yellow flowers with purple-brown veins in spring.  Does best in our garden when grown in partial shade and protected from hot afternoon sun. A native to mountain areas in Yunnan, Sichuan & Myanmar where it grows in moist sites. Hardy to -20 degrees

Background:
Named after the great plant hunter George Forrest. It was first discovered in the mountains in north west Yunnan in 1908.
