Iris schachtii ‘yellow form’

Habitat:
It likes full sun, good drainage and quite a dry summer dormancy.

Description and Distribution:
Found in central and eastern Turkey. Dwarf species, flowers yellow. There is also a purple flowered variety.

Background:
This iris is named for German botanist Wilhelm Schacht (1903-2001. He was Director of the Munchen-Nymphenburg Botanical Gardens. Previously he had been Director of the Royal Parks and Gardens in Bulgaria, and in the company of King Boris III (reign 1918-1943) made numerous botanical expeditions in the Alps and Balkans. He is credited with the discovery and classification of many previously unknown perennial species.
