Iris unguicularis

It grows best in a dry, sunny and well-drained position. Dry soil seems to be particularly important in summertime, and they seem to prefer alkaline conditions.

Description and Distribution:
Native to Greece, Turkey, Western Syria, and Tunisia. Flower appear in the hotter months of the year and colour can vary from mauve to lavender blue, with delicate markings, and sweetly scented. Generally the leaves grow about 30 to 45cm, with the flowers nestling among them.
