The genus Moraea is named for Robert More (1703-1780). More was an academic, botanist and politician.

Habitat and Description:
Moraea villosa flowers have that conspicuous eye-like pattern on the broad outer petals; like those found on the feathers of a peacock. They flower during mid to late spring.
